Of Some Use In the World. 6 By HOWARD FIELDING. Copyright. 1907. by C. W. Hooke. E 1)GAit SIIENSTONE was one of those lesser captains of finance and moderately swol len multimillionaires whose names have not become household words. In fact he was so quiet and unobtrusive in his ways that when our Wall street man came to me with a tip on Shenstone he began by asking If I knew him. The city editor of a newspaper is expected to know everybody, so that question will serve to indicate how inconspicuous Shenstone was. "He is the active agent in a big speculative pool that is being organ ised," continued Miles. the Wall street man. "The operations will probably 1be sensational enough to call for a spread story." Upon this hint I looked up Shen stone in the "morgue," as we call the great collection of clippings arranged in envelopes and carefully catalogued that every important ne...

OHO! AHA! So the Wilkinson "slander," so far as it relates to the bargain and sale of the Shreveport Times, was true in fact and was "off" only in details. The Shreveport Times says it in al most so many words. Just read this from the issue of the Times of Saturday: "Friends of Colonel Wilkinson wanted The Times and negotiated for its pur chase. If they had succeeded in consum mating the deal, The Times would today be supporting Colonel Wilkinson and Colonel Wilkinson would be welcoming that support and congratulating himself on his good fortune. Colonel Wilkinson can testify to the truth of these state ments if he...

THE RECORD. The Syndicated Banks which desire to go into the governing business in Louis iana to the extent of a free use of the surplus in the State's treasury, have a candidate for Governor in the person of J.
