No more will the deafening report of the "cannon cracker" be heard in Se attle on Old Glory's birthday anniver sary. The Public Safety committee of the city council has put its foot down. It will be a safe and sane Fourth in the Queen City. Some of the large busi ness houses appealed to Mayor Dilling to intervene, saying they had laid in a large stock and only wanted a chance to dispose of it this year. His honor refused to take a hand. The result is that no firecracker longer than two inches will be allowed to be sold. Tobacco culture on a large scale will be attempted in the vicinity of Kenne wick.
