Davis ami family as they sat at siiiijkt yi;stniay cvouiiijr at tlx'ur resi dence. Sixteenth and O'Xeill Streets. Mr. Davis looked out of tho open door of his dining room upon Sixteenth Street. He saw there an unusual pict ure. A tine, large sorrel mare, with a yearling colt at Tier side, w as standing try the sidewalk. I'pou the mare's hack sat a young woman sidewise in a man's saddle. She had on a man's broad-brimmed hat, a close-lilting blue and white checked calico dress, rough lace shoes, and on unit foot was a man's stirrup. A yellow riihher coat was tied lip behind the saddle. The young woman was sunburnt and travel stained, but sat erect and looked as if she was aide to take care of herself.
