Kerry Wayne, born Jan. 6, weighing 7 lbs., 4Vj oz, and measuring 18V inches. Grandparents are Mrs. Katherine Benedix of Smith- ville and Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Becker of Giddings. Kerry Wayne's great- grandfather is Mr. Arthur Krieg of Electra, Texas. Mrs. James Becker was the former Darlene Benedix. Kellar Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Kellar of 402 Short, Smith- ville got quite a surprise for Christmas. The surprise took the shape of a seven pound eight ounce little blue-eyed, brown haired baby girl. Lillian Coltzer, of Round Rock, comes to Smithville every Tuesday afternoon to teach her dance classes at Sam Houston Elemen- tary's auditorium. Coltzer is a professional ballerina. She graduated from the Alexander Kotche- tovesky School of Dance in Houston and later became a member of the Ft. Worth Civic Ballet Company. In New York she worked with "Town and Country" summer stock musicals. Also included in her dance education has been extensive training at the School of Ballet Arts in Carnegie Hall. Jan. 22 the Rockdale Tigers' girls basketball team and the Manor boys' basketball team were crowned champs of their respective divisions. Other boys' team winners were consolation -- Moulton defeated Waelder 41 - 29 and third place was Luling 58 to Smithville 53. In the girls' division consolation went to Manor over Flatonia 28 - 25 and third place, Smithville "B" - 58 to Smithville "9th" -24. The workshop was held for all the county officials of the Capital Area Planning Council's 10 counties. Seven counties were repre- sented with Williamson and Fayette counties having total representation. Com- missioners Alexander, Paris, Wiley, Sheriff Hoskins, and Judge Jack Griesenbeck represented Bastrop County. The purpose of the work- shop was to present a general overview of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards requirements as relating to the county governments. Guy Van Cleve, Executive Director of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, was the main speaker. The 64th Legislature's House Bill #272 created a commission on jail stand- ards.
