NEW WESLEYAN CHURCH, BRUCEDALE, JUNEE ROAD. (COMMUNICATED.) [Newspaper Article] — Wagga Wagga Advertiser — 13 November 1875

NEW WESLEYAN CHURCH, BRUCE- ' DALE, JUNEE ROAD. " (communicated.) The interesting ceremony of laying the first stone of the proposed new church, at Bruce-   dale, took place on Tuesday last, in the presence of about 250 persons. It will, doubtless, be remembered by many of our readers, that the small wooden church was burned to the ground on the 21st of last June, and ever since the congregation have very much felt the need of a new church, services having been held in tho house of Mr. W. Macaulay. However, the friends of the Methodist Church in that neighbourhood re- solved some weeks past to make an attempt to build a brick church,- as being much more » serviceable than the former kind of structure. On tho day named, at half-past two o'clock, tho Rev. Charles Stead commenced tho servico by giving out the hymn, " How pleasant, how divinely fair," &o ; aud aftor it waa sung olfcred pmyor. Tho XlXtli Psalm was then" read by Mr. "\V. ltiley. , . J Mr. Stead explai...

PHYSICAL LIFE AFTER DEATH. (From the Scientific American.) [Newspaper Article] — Wagga Wagga Advertiser — 17 November 1875

PHYSICAL LIFE AFTER DEATH. (From (he Scicntific American.) Mau is a physiological trinity, llis tifo is threefold. At tho base, aud em bracing the phenomena of circulation ;ind nutrition, is tho organic lile, us Bichafc terms it—the lifo which tho animal shares with tho plant. Hosting on this is tho animal life, as exhibited in the phenornona of tho sensory ner vous system; nnd intimately connected with the latter, as its highest develop ment, is tho mental life, characteristic of man. These three aro one, but not inseparable. They aro not born to gether, nor do they always die together. Death is not a simple phenomenon, nor onoof instantaneousoccurrenco. AVhon man dies normally, aa of old age, he dies like a tree, in detail, beginning at the top. Tho Berios of slow and partial deaths which, with tho old man spared by disease, result in the last end of all, is eloquently described by Pappillan : —'All tho 3enses in succession are sealed. Sight becomes dim and un steady, and at last ...

Positivk ViftTUKS.—The most of the so called great remedies possess only that sort of negative or passive virtue, which, while it may not often cure disease, will seldom omlanger life. Biilstol's Saraaparilla is equally safe, but it is possessed of that posi tive or aggressive virtue which will not tolerate the presence of disease or impure blood or humours in the human, system, where it is used, and thus it is that it always eileets complete and lasting cures.—Ajjvx,

THIS DARLING COUNTRY. (Corowa Free Press.) [Newspaper Article] — Wagga Wagga Advertiser — 17 November 1875

THIS DARLING COUNTRY. : . (Gorowa Free Press.) , We have jasfc seen a gentleman who hns recently returned from a visit to tbaWilcannia country, who seems de lighted with the prospects held out in those far-away regions to stock-growers having a limited area of badly-grassed country to supply the wants of their station produce. Being long acquainted with pastoral pursuits, and having n large experience in the description of grazing country required in order to bo raoBfc profitable to tbo proprietor, his opinion on this subject must carry more than the ordinary •weight. Ho says that between Wilcaunia and Menindie —in fact at all places 011 the Darling whore he has visited, but more particu larly at tbo former location — the country is grassed splendidly with luxuriant suit bush, cotton bush, mulga, and wild oats, tbe latter growing higher than most of the cultivated crops in this part of tlie country. With regard to water, he says that owing to the recent dry season, its scarcity is a...

THE "NOT STRAIGHT" BEING (Queen.) [Newspaper Article] — Wagga Wagga Advertiser — 17 November 1875

THE "NOT STRAIGHT" BEING (Queen.) Tour actions and their motives oro not safe, nor are yon ovor nt tlio back of bis. Tliero is always some secret twist in his mind through which everything is ran, to come out in a strange shnpo and crookod. You, who are straight forward and not suspicious, never sea the drift of his small manoeuvres till you are landed in some bog-like mis understanding, wherein attempts to extricate yourself only end in your sinking deeper into the mire ; or you 6nd yourself implicated in some matter which comes upon you as sud denly as a mino sprung under your batteries. Tou had no idea of the little underground manoeuvres going on. "When you accepted the invitation, you were not aware that it was given in order that yon might meot some one whose confidence in your crooked friend would be established by the very fact of yonr presence. It was never suffered, however, that you should tear asunder the veil ; and the small crookedness of your friend who is not straigh...

THE LUCY SCHILER MYSTERY. (The Border Watch.) [Newspaper Article] — Wagga Wagga Advertiser — 17 November 1875

THE LUCY SCHILm MYSTERY. (The Border Walch.) Tho feeling is growing in intensity at Mount Gatnbier tliat the mysterious disappearance in May last of a young girl supposed to bo named Lacy Schiller is not satisfactorily accounted for. Wn stated in onr last that a telegram cnino to Page a few days before bis execution asking for information about the girl. This was from' some relations near Adelaide. Pago then denied tbat bo had over seen her at Mount Gambier, and said she was with her father at Mount Remarkable. Wo have received the following particulars regarding tho affair, which we publish with the view of stimulating further inquiry. It will be noted tbat if the girl referred to was Lucy Schiller, Page's denial of having seen her at Mount Gambier is flatly contradicted by Mrs. Krull, of tho Globe Hotel. Mrs. Krull's statement is as follows :—In May, 187-i, a young woman, aged 20, of very respectable appearance, well-dressed and ot plens ing manners, came to the Globe Hotel I abou...
