Tna Bauc. selection cage has found its way into-frllment, and the.contination' of this little family arrangement on the part. of the Government to give up a valuable piece of the publio estate to the owners of .Tatong Station (whoever they may be) for their exclusive use foreverhas been quite of a piece with that previonusly known. For ingenuity after this recommend ms. to Mr. MACPrnEaso, whose statement to the House is most touching, and has no doubt led many to believe (who are not asquaintei with the' whole of the nircum staicees of this scandalous case) that he asid the CEm e SciaAT are much-injured 'idi. viduals. Perhaps we may also throw in .the' oerscereof the at.tion into the bargain sonce he has been somewhat roughly handled in the attmpt made by Mr. Zioxaxas to et justice done to an honest selector. SULLIVAN THE BUSHRANGER. With reference to the career of the bushranger John Sullivan, now in custody for shooting at Mounted-constable Mays, some particulars have been elicited by the detective force. The pri- soner is a native of South America, but was brought up in Devonshire, England. His real name is John Lewis Elliott, but he has the aliases of Amery, Jackson, Sullivan, and several others. He is 25 years of age, 5ft 7in high, dark hair, small narrow low forehead, very dark complexion, clean shaved, restless eyes, stout build, and very active. The first conviction recorded against him in this colony was at Kilmore, where he received a sentence of nine months' imprisonment. His next sentence was four years hard labour for   burglary with violence, at the residence of Mr Carter, of Emerald Hill. At the time of his arrest for this offence he made a daring escape from the police, and was not re-captured for some time. On his discharge he proceeded, in com- pary with Jo...

MAINDAMPLE ., (FROM a CORRESPONDENT .) - Decembaer 12 The Maindample United Company has knocked off all the men, owing principally to the expensive manner in which the work was carried on, and by loss of gold at the crushing machine through not knowing how to put the quicksilver on the copper plates. The directors have dismissed the mining'manager,   and there is no doubt that under a new and economical man that it will be a payable claim yet. 'Mr Hardy and company are; sinklng a main shaft, and they expect to be on good gold in a few days. Mr Hardy deserves   great praise for the persevering and energetic manner he has carried on this claim during the last three years. Any person to look at the ground could tell that miners had been at work. Oliver Hill's lease (or in oiher words the Bryant's Creek Quarts Mining Company)   has now been got fairly under way at last. This lease has been for some time in the hands of a few influential gentlemen, ...
