BUSHRANGING. (Communicated to the S. M. Herald.) [Newspaper Article] — The Brisbane Courier — 7 July 1864

BU8BSANOINQ. (Communicated to the S, M. Berala.) Tjtb accounts which wo havo recently received of the doings of Morgan, the bushranger, have Drodueed a profound impression of horror, as- tonishment, and shame. The deeds of tho ruffian himself, though sufficiently revolting, aro unfortunately neither unprecedented nor ex- ceptional. They merely display the usual at- tributes of the wild beast in the form of man ; of the human shape bereft of its humanity. Our astonishment and shame havo a different origin. For the tlrst timo, wo boliove, it is re- corded that eleven of our fellow-subjects, able bodied men, have tamely submitted to indignity, insult, and violence, at tho hands of a single man. Wc cling to the hope that there may bo some inistnlu-Ȗuio peculiar circumstance un- told-which may present tho matter in a different light. How they managed to keep their bauds off tho ruffian is a wonder and a mystery. AVo could hardly have believed that eleven woroon of tho ordinary Anglo-Sax...

Eíjc (tattm* ige- PUBLISHED DAILY. i of . tivo TnUJlSX>A.Y, JULY 7, 1864. of Tiru intentions of the Government in reference to the erection ol' the public offices in the metropolis must be regarded with peculiar interest by the residents of Brisbane. No one can entertain a doubt of the desirableness of placing all the central departments charged with the con- duct of the business of the State as near one another as possible. For instance, an arrangement which should embrace them in something like the following order would likely be found convenient and econo- mical:-The Colonial jSecretary's office, with the office of the Commissioner of Police; the Colonial Treasury, with the Audit-office ; the Department of Lands and Works, including the Surveyor-Gene- ral's, the Chief Conimissioner of Crown Lands', and the Colonial Architect's offices ; the Attorney-General's depart- ment and the Crown Law offices ; the Supreme Court, with the Sheriff's office; the Registrar-General's Departme...
