Silver Medal Contest. The first of the second series of silver medal contests in con nection with the local Method ist Church was decided last Tuesday night, in the presence of a fairly large audience, for whose delectation an excellent programme of vocal and in strumental items, recitations dialogues, &c, was submitted in addition to the competitive pieces. The Rev. T. Brassing ton presided. There were five contestants — namely, Miss E Perren, and Messrs. B. Nichols H. Whalley, J. Benfer, and D. Webster — and the verdict of the adjudicators (Messrs. W Lanham, J. T. Wilson, and G Young) was given in favour of   Mr. Benfer, who displayed. histrionic ability of no mean order. Songs were contributed by     by Mesdames Benfer and L. W.
