Photographs of Sheep. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 21 July 1896

_ * Photographs of Sheep. V ?t ? Very excellent indeed is the series j of pictures of the Champion Sheep at J the Show just published by Kerry and,; ? Co., of 308 George-street, Sydney. The Platinotype photographs / especially are most artistic. The clean brilliant effects being exactly suited for showing up the qualities of the Merino. The firm are disposing of large numbers of the photographs to breeders and others who value these productions. Fred Leslie used to tell how on one occasion he purchased a red flannel shirt ' warranted not to shrink.' His laundress, however, soon made it ' run up.' After it had been through her hands once it could only be worn as a singlet : the second time it made a chest protector ; and the third time, when he put it on, his wife asked him, ' My dear, where did you get that coral necklace?'

A Heavy Loss. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 21 July 1896

A Heavy Loss. The Hon. J. N. Brunker, Colonial Secretary, suffered a heavy loss last week through the death — from lock jaw — of one of bis stud fillies. She was two years old, and was got by the Drummer out of Ida, from Kelpie, and was one of the best fillies he had in his stud and was a very valuable beast. A veterinary surgeon of Mor peth, Mr. James McCarthy, was called in to see the filly at Maude ville, and he at once pronounced her \ to be suffering from lockjaw, and held J out no hope of her recovery. At the ] time he could not discern anything ? that would show cause of the lock-jaw, but he thought that a nail or a piece ', of glass must have worked into the V frog and cut the main tendon leading ! upwards. At his request the leg of the filly was cut off when she died, and on examination a rusty nail was ! found embedded in the core of the } foot. Mr. Brunker has been very un- | fortunate indeed with his blood-stock, having, in a few years, lost nearly . £2000 worth of horse...

A Seed Firm. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 21 July 1896

A Seed Firm. Messrs. Arthur Yates and Co., the seedsmen, are advertising in another column. This is a firm with a record, and what a man needs to do, when he wants seed, is to get hold of a good firm. You can get fearful stuff from unreliable people, at cheap rates, but when the seed? comes up you sit down — and awear. Messrs. Arthur Yates and Co. are reliable people. They have about 17 years' experience in the business.' They have experimental farms at Exeter, New South Wales, and at Margere, in Auckland, New Zealand. They have gone into the seed business full of knowledge and their name is known all over the colonies. They show that they are shrewd people by advertising with us, but they have a long and good record and we are pleased to welcome them to our pages.

Bookkeeping Made Easy A SYSTEM FOR STATIONS. A WORD TO MR. HOLT. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 21 July 1896

Bookkeeping Made Easy A SYSTEM FOR STATIONS. A WORD TO MR. HOLT. ' A good while ago we noticed a pro mised work on Ci Station Bookkeeping Made Easy,' by a Mr. Holt, of Melbourne. Tha*i appeared to strike a tender chord in plenty of hearts, because we've had a fearful lot of applications for the book, and it seems as though there were a lot. of people like myself in this world. It's this way. I can't keep books, never could, and never will ; but I get to be treasurer for other fellows' money all the same. Well when I get money for fellows I put it down all right ; that's easy. Then I pay things and get things mixed, and forget some things, and then when I come to pay up, the account is all right, but — where's the money ? I've had to borrow money to settle up with before to-day. Now what I want is a system of bookkeeping that will en able me to keep my cash, or, at any rate, to tell where it goes. While the stockowners were in town during the ' Woolly Festival' there was a great lot ...
