WARREN.     (FROM our own CORRESPONDENT.) May 31. THERE is nothing spoken of here now   except the show. The weather prophets are at their wits' end to know what weather to predict, but it will be a surprise to everyone if it is fine, as it seems to be a rule to have wet weather at show time. The gates were sold on Friday last to Mr. C. Harper for £68, the same bidder also secured the Grand Stand rights for £5. The refreshment stalls were bought by Mr. G. Allen for £5 10s. The total sale of privileges turned in £135 14s. The weather during the past week lias been generally fine but cold, and some sharp frosts have bee a ex- perienced. The couurry is looking splendid, there being abundance of grass everywhere. A very distressing death occurred here last Thursday. The wife of Mr. W. Drew passed away after only a few hours' sickness, Mr. Drew being away from home at the time. The funeral, which was one of the largest ever seen in Warren, took plac...

NOTES AND COMMENTS. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 6 June 1894

NOTES AND COMMENTS. The increase iu the revenue of the country during the mouth of May will be hailed with pleasure as a Bigii, small though it may be, of a revival in business; and to the municipalities of the country it will be specially interest ing1 from the fact that on that increase depends the decision as to whether they will obtain subsidies or not this year. Sir George Dibbs, some weeks ago, made a promise that if in June the revenue showed an improvement, he would do what he could in the matter of a special subsidy to munici palities. Although on two or three occasions since it has been stated in ; the Assembly that no subsidy would be given, it is only fair to expect that the Premier will not go back on his promise. An endowment of even 15s in the pound would be very | welcome just now to our own Council. * . * The news which comes from Queens land that the intercolonial convention of bush unions has completed arrange ments for resisting a reduction in shearing rates, sho...
