THE COLONIAL BANK OF AUSTRALASIA L?MI.TED. The balance sheet of the Colonial Bank of Australasia Limited for the half-year ended 31st March last has been published. The net profit for the half-year amounted to ,£29,230 7s 4d. A dividend at the rate of 7 per cent, per annum has been made on both preference and ordinary shares. ,£10,000 is being placed to the reserve fund, making .£20,000 for the year and raising that- fund to .£220,000. The reserve fund is now equal to one-half the paid up capital of the bank. ,£5000 is being placed in reduction of bank pre mises and .£4485 5s is being car ried forward to next half year. The balance sheet shows great strength in coin, bullion, debentures and other liquid assets, which amount to .£'2,078,787 lis 6d. This is more than sufficient to pay all the current account balances and other liabilities on demand, and is equal to 46 per cent, of the total liabili ties of tlie bank. MINING NOTES. A J AX NORTH MINE. The sccond bulk crushing from the Ajax North mine \v:is cleaned up 011 Saturday with satisfactory results. The crushing comprised 280 tons of stone obtained north on the Nos. 6 and 7 levels, and produced, exclusive of minerals, 226 oz. retorted gold. A good yield was anticipated, but :lj'ie result has exceeded local anticipa tions. In the west crosscut!, No. S level, tjiey struck 011-Friday a body of stone showing a little gold. Re cent private advices from the mine are to the effect llhat the stone is presenting a very promising ap pearance.
