Molesworth Sports. A GREAT SUCCESS. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 14 January 1910

Molesworth Sports. A GREAT SUCCESS. The above was held on Wednesday, Jan. 15th, on the local sports ground, and attracted a large attendance, a large majority being Alexandra residents. The day was very warm indeed, but the many shade spots on the banks of the Goulburn being availed of only those who were engaged in managing the sports felt the effects of the blasts of heat that swept the country that day. The slolesworth sports ground is an ideal spot for the masses, therefore no wonder the re sidents flock in such number to enjoy a day's outing. The visitor each year meets with improvements in some form and it is pleasing to note that this year, in par icular, many permanent additions have been made to suit those who patronise the excellent sports provided. The energetic secretaries, Mloesses. H. Sawers and W. Davies, deserve the highest praise for the creditable manner in which the gathering was conducted from start to finish The committee, stewards, judges and others lent valuabl...

Rubicon Tramway. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 14 January 1910

Rubicon Tramway. Probably a record in lengthy council meetings in Alexandra was scored on Monday last, when after sitting on ordinary business from 11 a.m. to half past six, the council again deliberated until the hour of half past eleven. The evening sitting was devoted to a confer ence with Messrs Oldfield and Skinner, representing the Rubicon Tramway Com pany, regarding the terms on which the council would grant the company leave to contruct a tramway along the Thornton road to the forest. Previous meetings had already taken place and the con ditions tentatively fixed, but when the lawyers had finished the draft agreement. the company found something to object to in almost every clan?so. The council considered also that some of the clauses were unnecessarily harsh, and agreed to them being struck out or amended to meet, the wishes of the company. The penalty clauses es'ecvially looked very drastic as drafted and the council agreed that they- should be modified by the lawyers acti...

Thornton Tramway. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 21 January 1910

Thornton Tramway:. Ih our list issue we stated that the repre sentatives of the company made the follow ing olffer:-That instead of paying only £5 per annum as agreed, the company should pay £50 per annum for 21 years, with the right of renewal of lease for another 10ycars at £300 per annum... This was a mistake, the offer being from the council, at the suggestion of President Wylie and Crs.. Murray and Lade.. Cr. IMurray suggested £100 per annum, and this was finally decided upon by vote.. Our attention has been drawn to the mistake, as being likely to cause a misunderstanding be tween the ratepayers and councillors:. One / thing is certain, that the interests of the ratepayers will receive due consideration at the hands of the council, and it is to be lioped the outcome of yesterday's conference in lMelbourne will result in an early settle ment of the differences..
