Coit , the Indian . [Newspaper Article] — New York Clipper — 4 February 1854

Coit , the Indian . We stated last week that Coit , the Indian , had not been able . to raise the $ 3000 necessary to make the contemplated wrestling match . This was an error . The ; backers of Coit had not received any challenge from tho party mentioned , and when they do , they can not only deposit the S 3000 , but as much more as maybe needed . This we have from the principal backer . Going Off The daily papers inform us that the ball at the Metropolitan Hotel . last week , went off with great eclal . It appears that a number of ovorcoats , cloaks , and other articles of wearing apparel also went off-vritk great eclat . Is nt it strange that at all aristocratic assemblages there is more or less thieving going on ? . You . dont find this the case at gatherings of poor classes . It looks bad for the upper ten .

From Bell ' s- Life , in London , January 8 . AMERICAN ABD ENGLISH Ships Contrasted . [Newspaper Article] — New York Clipper — 4 February 1854

From Bell s- Life , in London , January 8 . AMERICAN ABD ENGLISH Ships Contrasted . MB . EDITOR : Your last week s correspondent in search of a yacht had better make up his mind what he wants it for . If perfection of fast sailing , he cant have s perfect sea-boat , and tic * versa . The American model , by whieh I mean sharp concave . bows , must perse make a ship less buoyant to the coming sea than the old British coVvex line . The happy medium must be hit to combine both qualities ; but , if a medium , why expect it to compete with the extreme of either 1 That British ships are generally better sea-boats than the American is not , Tbolieve , to be denied . The China trade—the great b attle-gfound of tho two nations—haslately afforded one or two examples . The first ship of the now season was Ihe American Architect , 500 tons , which made the passage to London in 108 days , heating the Hero of the Nile , a vessel of 355 tons , by three days . The difference of size about makes up ...

A queer case of olose Shaving .
