iHOME w sWITH l [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 6 April 1907

iHOME w sWITH l A TRAGEDY OF SOULS . ( A Western Story . ) —™ BY DAISY WBIGHT FIELD . A summer day In northwestern Nebraska . A white , smooth , hot-looking road , stretching away toward the south , the only visible evidence of the encroaching civilization of man on all those broad plains , save here and there a small black dot , that upon investigation , would have resolved itself into a dugout or a sod hut One of the latter , a little larger than nsual , and neater in appearance , was situated near the road , in a pleasant green meadow . Even from without it had a more home-like appearance than its scattered neighbors , a row of giant sunflowers shading the dooryard , and turning their great , golden , cheerful faces eastward to their god , the sun , while in their friendly shadow a few widow s pinks and bachelors buttons had struggled into bloom . On a bench outside the door a row of shining milkpans and pails reflected the sunlight from their gleaming surfaces . and several fami...

HOUSEHOLD DEPARTMENT [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 6 April 1907

HOUSEHOLD DEPARTMENT ~~ - >~> W ~ N N ~ N ~« . SPECIAL ARTICLE NO . 6 . ~~~~~*~~>~ xTrainingOurFiveDaughters=6 ,.,. Bs > JULIA GAGE . GERRISH . A * * Appreciate Household Conveniences . —I am not personally concerned about the servant girl question , which Is a matter of such vast moment to so many people . I am raising my own help . But in the days when I was dependent on hired help , I never had any difficulty keeping a girl . My work was so conveniently arranged that they usually seemed happy in the place . I think it is not so often a matter of Inability to provide conveniences as it is lack of appreciation of conveniences . At one time , when some of the family were away , we rented the main part of our house to a family of strangers . They made no use whatever of the butlers sink , except to draw water there , but set up their dishpans . like household gods , upon the table , and carried every bit of water , clean and soiled . It is ...

» ict- ° ^ e , ? S Oi ifota?toMa%eaGoodLaWn. Special Article No . 12 . 4 4 4 By L . B . PIERCE , Summit Co ., Ohio In this paper the lawn will be considered wholly as the ornamental grass plot surrounding the farm and suburban home . Across and beyond it lie all the expeditions and transactions with the outside world ; across and within it is the home—the American home — which means so much , and can be compared with no other place unless it be Heaven . The paths of utility all cross it to the barn , the garden , the school-house , and the mail bos . It smiles at you ( or does it frown ?) when you first look out in the morning , and it is there where you take your rocking chair in the summer afternoon , to rest and breathe the outdoor air laden with perfume of trees and flowers . It is there the mother spreads a quilt and lays the sleeping infant , and it is there the infant makes his first acquaintance with bees and butterflies , and humming birds and trees and flowers , and gets f...

THAT DISSATISFIED FEELING . [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 13 April 1907

THAT DISSATISFIED FEELING . A great many farmers are Inclined to find fault with their lot . For nearly fifteen years I have been in a position , as manager of creameries , where I could hear more or less of their discontent . This class is not confined to any particular locality ; we find them in all sections of the country . I dont know as they can help complaining ; it seems to be natural for them . If it is not one thing , it is another . Their crops are cut short , price too low , too much or too little rain . In fact they give no credit to anything , as being just right . Of course there are many who are not this way . Some move along and not a word out of them in the shape of a complaint , and as a rule I think they all get along better and are more prosperous than those who are continually finding fault with all conditions surrounding them , for this worrying over that which can not be helped does no good , but rather does harm by annoying others . Then there is another clas...
