The ordinary methods employed to dispatch these insidious pests fail to dislodge the red louse. Kerosene oil rubbed through the feathers to the flesh is a good rem edy. Cake or Fruit Sandwiches. Prostration from the effects of the heat of the sun is not limited to human beings. During the last few seasons cases have been com mon among horses and oxen, and even anions milch cows. There is also a large increase of sickness and mortality, aside .from sunstroke, that are plainly attrib utable to the effects of the heat of the sun during the hottest portion of the day. Travelers observe that less out-of-door labor is performed in most other countries during this period. In all tropical and semi-tropical regions it is as common to rest for several hours during the hottest portions of the day as it is at night.
