Reduction c-f Halar^s. t» .-i i i -1.111 („ it>A A acorn hi * [Newspaper Article] — Los Angeles Star — 1 February 1855

Reduction of Salaries. <> Mr. Ryland has introduced a bill in the Assembly to reduce the present exorbitant salaries of many of our public officers—the reduction of which has been recommended by the Governor for the past three years. We think the bill can still be amended for the better, by puttirig the salaries more on an equality for the labor performed. We do not hesitate to say this is the case, as, for iustance, the salaries of the Judges of the First and Second Districts, which is each $3009. No one will for a moment deny that the business in the First District is doubly more arduous than .it is in the Second, and no doubt even more than in some of the districts where the proposed salary is $4000. The following table shows the reduction proposed in' the following officers, as likewise the present salary : - Proposed Present Salary. Salary. To Governor $6,000 $10,000 Secretary of State 3,000 3,500 Comptroller of State 4,000 4,500 Treasurer of State 4,000 4...
