1 fafaiiniits' The soft little embroidered shoes so popular just now are very expensive to buy, but fascinating, as well as cheap to make. It is quite the fad to have them match the cap, both in material and design. With a cashmere cap, for instance, would go cashmere shoes, while sheer handkerchief linen is used for the lingerie cap. For lining the latter a firm, heaty sillt is needed, with more "body" ti^n that lining the cap. ' Equally suitable is fine French flannel, white corded silk or even an art linen (not too heavy) for this diminutive footgear. For slightly older children the shoes are often made up in the heavy linens in pale shades of pink, blue and even red. x When the embroidery, which should be done exactly as on the cap, is fin- ished, cut out the pattern carefully, following the dotted lines. Sew up the backs in a tiny seam, bind it if the shoe is not to be lined. Then join the notches of the top to the notches in the sole, and sew very neatly together. The lining i...

J0 JjH T^mmm i; • : '■ t-Trade-Qmoi\ 44^ ♦ r'r-;.. ■ Q^SGCl lector +gfry* WILL *7. FRENCH T IS now a recognized axiom that all successful effort comes as the result of organization. While re- form movements have one or more individuals re- sponsible for their exist- ence, it is the concentra- tion of purpose added to numbers that wins. The modern trade union has been criticized, justly and unjustly, but its underly Ing principles are founded on the doc- trine of the greatest good to the great- est number, and th laudable desire to remedy conditions at times intoler- able and always capable of improve- ment. \ The labor movement sometimes needs to be saved from its friends. Restriction of membership, high initia- tion fees, the false idea that men have not an equal right to live and work, with here and there an organization refusing them admittance, and other abuses that might be named, are rec- ognized by the student of the ques- tions of the day as wrong. We might as well be candid...
