I'm in a manage- ment position and I think I may be developing an ulcer. What should I look for, and how can I prevent it? It used to be unheard of for a woman to get an ulcer. That is chang- ing fast as women are quickly catching up to men in the ulcer category. Why the change? Part of the answer may be related to the increase in smok- ing among women. Smokers have a greater tendency toward ulcers than non-smokers, although the reasons are unknown. We do know that some peo- ple are at greater risk for ulcers than others, either due to their lifestyle, temperament, or heredity. The following factors have been shown to be associated with the development of ulcers: heavy caffeine drinker, heavy alcohol drinker, heavy smoker, heavy aspirin user, has ner- vous stomach, has blood relative with ulcers, has trouble s...

IS - .y'scyi1 Page 30 SACHSE SENTINEL OCTOBER* 1985 LOST MAPLES OVERCROWDED DURING FALL SEASON Several weeks each fall, Lost Maples State Natural Area becomes the most intensely visited of all Texas state parks, and the pressures of popularity are taking a toll on the site's environ- ment. Texas Parks and Wildlife Depart- ment officials said that during October and November weekends, thousands of visitors stream into the park to witness . Jhe bigtooth maple trees' annual display of brilliant red foliage. The resulting crowd, both vehicular and pedestrian, has hurt the environment and made the experience less than ideal for many visitors. The department instituted several changes in the park designated to facilitate traffic flow, and placed a 150-vehicle limit for designated parking within the natural area. Parking there will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Officials urge prospective L.ost Maples visitors to plan weekday, rather than weekend, outings if possible dur- ing the ...

OCTOBER 1085 SACHSE SENTINEL P«9« 31 VA Looking To Sell More Than 20,000 Homes Investors or buyers looking for singJe-family homes should check with local real estate agents for information on properties that may be for sale by the Veterans Administration. The VA has approximately 20,000 homes for sale nationwide and in- dividuals need not be veterans to qualify as buyers. These properties were formerly the security for VA- guaranteed loans and range from the basic starter home to the traditional colonial to contemporary ranch-style homes. Houses are available in every state but most are concentrated around the Great Lakes area and in the southwestern U.S. The VA office in Waco acquires and sells about 100 properties a month throughout the northern half of Texas. There is heavy activity in the Dallas/ Fort Worth metropolitan areas, but VA also has properties available in most other cities, according to Stephen Lemons, Director of the Waco Regional Office. "There are some real bargai...

Pag* 4 8ACHSE SENTINEL NOVEMBER. 1985 FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF SACHSE MARKET SURVEY * TIM RYAN Several students from the Uni- versity of Dallas are conducting a market survey project in the immediate area for the First Na- tional Bank of Sachse. The pur- pose of this survey is to ultimately determine the most beneficial means for the bank to serve the needs of the local community relative to their plans for future ex- pansion. Thus, the survey will be primarily concentrated in the Sachse, Wylie, Murphy, and N.E. Garland area. Since the success of this project is vitally dependent upon the response rate of the community, the students would like all indi- viduals who receive the mail survey to take a few minutes of their time and complete the questionnaire. As an incentive for participation, a drawing for a First National Bank of Sachse savings account deposit, worth $100.00, is being offered. One individual will be selected as the winner from the eligible participants. The project is c...

That is certainly true of the hearts and friendliness of the citizens of Sachse. I am so proud of the tremendous response that we had to our Book and Bake Sale on October 5th. Proceeds have been placed in the Sachse Library Building Fund, adding to our already over $2,300.00 invested. Thank you all for your caring and sharing to help us build better facilities for the future. Be sure and note elsewhere in the paper that the library will begin offering VCR tapes of movies, specials and adult educa- tion topics. p «« IS 8ACHSE SENTINEL NOVEMBER 1986 ArtlcU Olw AdvU< Vldtolipt Um An article in the June, 1985, issue of Video Manager gives some very practical advice on the use of videotape. The arti- cle "Tkpe Appreciation: Getting the Most From Your Videotape" states the following: 1) Never try to save money on videotape, 2) Always use tape produc- ed by a major manufacturer, rather than a no-name tape, 3) Always record new material on brand new tape, 4) Keep videotape clean (boxed); medium cool - at the human comfort level, not too hot or cold; and away from magnetic fields (such as those around video monitors), 5) Label all videotapes immediately and note its generation: "1st" (new) "2nd" (first re-use), "3rd", and "garbage". A natural defect that all videotapes share is dropout, which shows up as oc- casional random white flecks on your image. Dropout is caused by microscopic gaps in the oxide layer of videotape. As a piece of videotape gets used, the action of the heads, guides, and pi...

NOVEMBER 1085 SACHSE SENTINEL P«9« 13 ' VA QUESTIONS ft ANSWERS Q --1 have a GI home loan and I am considering selling my home to pur- chase another. What can I do to have my entitlement restored to obtain another GI home loan? A - A veteran may qualify for restoration if the VA has been relieved of liability on the GI loan. Normally this is accomplished by selling the pro- perty and paying off the loan in full. Another way is for a veteran-buyer to agree to substitute his or her entitle- ment for that of the original veteran borrower and meet all other require- ments for entitlement. Q -- Will the VA provide a headstone or marker for a veteran's grave in a private cemetery overseas? A - Yes. Headstones and markers may be shipped overseas for placement at unmarked graves of veterans buried in private cemeteries. Arrangements for delivery will be made by the National Cemetery System through the U.S. Embassy or consulate offices in the country involved. Q - My home was damaged by a hu...
