SEWERAGE PIPES. TO THE EDITOR Sir, — After carefully inspecting the sewer age pipes that are lying close to tho post office I would like to offer a few remarks on drain- age in general. Regarding the pipes in question, only a very short existenoe can be hoped for them once they are planted, and I fear the evil to future efforts for the welfare of Zeehan in sanitary matters will be retarded indefinitely. The pipes that it is proposed, to use are rivetted, and of the stove-pipe pattern, and incapable of retaining liquids or gases. They may, therefore, be briefly described as exoellent con- ductors for the gathering together and dis- seminating of any oontageous disease we may be visited by.       The reason advanced for not using iron or earthenware pipes, namely, the risk of break- age and expense of cartage, is hardly a defensible one when the best drain pipes can be easily manufactured on the spot from hydraulic cement without any extensive pl...

BLACKMAIL. [Newspaper Article] — Zeehan and Dundas Herald — 22 May 1891

BLACKMAIL. Iu our last issue, under the ahovo Leading, we commented ou a practice that was publicly asserted to be a ganeral one amongst flur* veyore, namely, that it was a common custom {or prospectors and othels requiring surrey work done within a reasonable time to have to subsidise the eoale of fee fixed by Government with sundry sums from the pockets of those that held the land.
