Nine Times on The Nine. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 16 September 1893

Uine Times on The Nine. ,1'm as good as dead. I've won nine times on the nine, and lost nine times on the seven. Give this note to the banker ; he knows the address of myrelatives.' It was in a gambling house in Montana. The gambler who uttered these words threw down his cards, rose from the table, and loft the place. At early dawn the next morning the police found his body in some shrubbery about a mile distant. His own pistol was full of cart ridges ; it had not been used, yet there was a bullet hole in his left breast._ Was there any mysterious prophecy in the cards, or was Ihe gambler'u fear the outgrowth of superstition, and hie death a coincidence 1 Kveryone must decide for himself. But people are often considered as good as dead for a much more intelligible reason. Mr. Gohle, of 104, Albion-street, Southwick, near Brighton, was recently placed on the list by his friends. In his case the danger was not from powder or sharp steel, but from something that hurries more folks out ...

An Interesting Wedding. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 16 September 1893

An Interesting Wedding. The marriage of Mr. Charles T. Osborne, of Waterview, near Young, (and late of Kangaroo Valley) to Miss Sarah Gaston Mackinnon, oldest daughter of Mr. J. A. Mackinnon, M.L.A., took place at the Presbyterian Church, Young, on Tuesday, 5th instant. The event (says the Argus) was of wide interest, as the bride is a native of the district, having been born in the old house at Memagong, whose hospitable doors will long be remembered. Necessarily the young lady has troops of friends, who will regard the wedding of their favorite comrade with an interest only second to that which would attend their own. The bridegroom, attended by his "best   man," Mr. H. Osborne, met the bride at the Church door. The young lady was accompanied by her father, and attended by her bridesmaids, Misses G. Mackinnon, Sinclair, Osborne (2) who were again in charge of the gallant groomsman. As the wedding party proceeded up the aisle, and before the nuptial ceremony had commen...

After Many Years. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 30 September 1893

After Many Years. , About thirty years ago {writes ' Will Honeycomb ') four brothers noted for their love of the briny were out in in their boat in Sydney Harbour. There was a Etifi breeze blowing and things were looking anything but pleasant. About half-a-mile off, in Chowder, they noticed -what appeared to be men in the water, and down to them thev bore, the breeze carrvine tneir little kkiu along at a racing pace, the little craft throwing back in rare style the foaming waves from its bows. Tiioy soon reached the spot and found two young fellows struggling for dear life, now mounted on the crest of a rolling bi low, and then buried in the trough of the sea. They hauled them in more dead than alive, and then bringing them to by rubbing and other attentions discovered that their yacht had turned turtle and they had been six hours in the water. They landed them at Vaucluse, as requested, but for some reason or another never asked their names. A few nights ago, one of the brothers wh...
