SIR GEORGE BOWEN. [Newspaper Article] — The Darling Downs Gazette and General Advertiser — 24 November 1859

SIB GEOUGE BOWEN. Not the least anong the telegraphic announce ments in oar fourth page, is that of the arrival of Sir George Bowen, the tint Governor of Queensland. Tie doubts which may Lave per. raded the mind* of a- lew ss to the reality -of Separation, can iow be dispelled, and one and all join in gratitude to Her Host Gracious Majesty the Queen, by z cordial welcome of her representative. It is more Uiaii probable that two or three 'weeks will elapse before his Ex cellency aftrivotfrit Brisbane, and in tbe interval, we would recommend that a public meeting be held, and a coogratnlatorj address prepared to be presented tu him on his arrival. THE 'HTJACAfe' OR ANCIBXT BURIAL . PL1CES-HIST0B1C.VL SPEOULATIOXS. - Mr. Power, editor of Uie Star, who has studied the Isthmus and its past and present popnlatiou a great deal, in the course of an interesting article on the subject of the Late dis coveries, bays: — Whether the 'hnacas,'' from which the golden ornaments are now being extracted, were the burial places of the pcojile ?.-,-?-, at tiie time of the discovery of - America, inhabited the country it js extremely difficult to say. The -fact of golden eagles, such as those sjM&eu of by Columbus, being found in great ouiahers, would aimoet lead to the conclusion that tliey were of the same race, Fur it is not probable that the people, whose respect for theirdead is mentioned by all early Spanish historians, would have' plundered the graves of any previous tribe; and the fact of many .images in the forms of frogs or toads have also beea found nut ouly in gold, but ?Jsp ,fn tbor earthenware atensils, wonld strengtbeu th...
