C TEAM BEATS FAIRFIELD. [Newspaper Article] — Heidelberg News and Greensborough and Diamond Creek Chronicle — 13 February 1915

C TEAMi BEATS FAIRFIELD. The C team continues its victorious career. Their latest success was against Fairfield on the Pairfield green. Bysouth was a good winner and I hear that he was driving in great style. R. Davidson also won his game. G. Maggs was drawn against Brewer and, with the last end to play Brewer was six up. When Brewer and Maggs crossed over Fairfield had one shot near the jack and Maggs had half-a-dozen close handy. Maggs endeavored to knock out the Fairfield shot, but missed. Unfortunately for Farfield, Brewer knocked out his own shot, aed si~ went down to Maggs, so that their gamne eCde i' 4 t~e. Sq?l are the chances of the game, This afternoon Ivanhoe C plays Princes Park on the Ivanhoe green. The capital performances of the C team so far this season is quite surpris ing, as the majority of the team are new players.

BURKE ROAD BRIDGE. [Newspaper Article] — Heidelberg News and Greensborough and Diamond Creek Chronicle — 20 February 1915

SBUiiRE ROAD BRIDGE. Sir,-Generally I am averse to public criticism of an unfavorable character on the actions of our councillors, because I feel that the ratepayers are under an ob ligation to. men who give considerable time and trouble to our interests without fee or reward. "Number Two" Heid elberg bridge is, however, more than I can swallow. It is such a palpable blunder-such a grievous wrong to Ivan hoe-that I must join with your other correspondents in their vigorous protests. Many years ago we Ivanhoe folk ex perienced to the full the daily incon. venience involved in a long and tiresome journey to the city over the old Outer Circle railway line. We had to travel through North Fitzroy, Royal Park and North Melbourne to get to our desti. ation, usually in an old-fashionjed car riage. There were no. Tait cars then. At the time Ivanhoe was a very small village There was no. progress, no ad. vancemeqt of any kind, and property was practically unsaleable. Fortunately far the ratep...

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR. We do not hold ourselves responsible for, or identify ourselves with, the opinions expressed by our correspondents. DIRECT ROAD TO KEW. [Newspaper Article] — Heidelberg News and Greensborough and Diamond Creek Chronicle — 20 February 1915

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR. We do not hold ourselve. reaponelble for. or identify ourselves with, the opintoul expreoed by our oorrespondents. DIRECT ROAD TO KEW. Sir,-I have read with more or less amusement the letters appearing in your paper under the above heading, but the letter signed "The Land Jobbers" is the "limit." It takes the form of a lament (Scotch or otherwise) .that the roadway is not made on the banks of the Yarra. I would simply ask the writer if he has ever seen the Yarra in flood. If he has, surely that should be a full aliswer to his lament. Taking the road way as it stands now, it is just about above flood level. Perhaps the Land JTobbing Party (to wit, the author of the lament) is of a benevolent turn of mind, and is sincerely trying to find continual work for some of the local unemployed. If the roadway were made as he desires closer to the river-every time a bit of a flood came along work would be provided for men to hunt around and search for the road. Most of it...
