They were liable to be scalded, and to have their clothes destroyed. He considered that the wage paid to these men, 8/6 a day was not sufficient.—The surveyor saici that was the schedule rate.—Cr Shillabeer said the rate was fixed at a conference between the municipalities, and they could not alter it. At Thursday's Court he figured as complainant in a case in which he proceeded against Daniel Collins on a charge of perjury. When Hollingsworth entered the witness-box he said he was a free-thinker. EMPLOYE'S CLAIM. At Thussday's Court, 1?. J. Porter proceeded against E. A, and D. Green fon the recovery of. £25/12/- being < four weeks' wages claimed in lieu of notice. It was stated n evidence by complainant, that he was en. gaged by Green's foreman, and it was agreed by contract that one month's notice, should be given by either side. He was dismissed without notice. The defence was that defend ants had no knowledge of the agreement, and that their manager had gone outside his scope. After much legal argument, an order was made for£3/12/ with £1/14/- costs.
