Cricket. WEST WELLINGTON premiership. STANLEY V IRISH TOWN. [Newspaper Article] — Emu Bay Times and North West and West Coast Advocate — 27 January 1898

CRICKET     WEST WELLINGTON PREMIERSHIP STANLEY V IRISHTOWN   These teams met on Saturday (writes our   correspondent). The visitors went first to       the wickets but were quickly disposed for 32. Stanley fared little better, only getting 37. In the second innings Irish Town rattled up   102. C. Ainslie 28, T. Atkins 27, A.J. Wood 17, and M. Fahey 12, being the chief contri- butors. Stanley finished wretchedly; over a     dozen catches were missed, and the throwing in was very wild, resulting in several runs. Stanley in their last inning did somewhat   better than in their first, but seeing there was no chance to win by runs,   tried at last to play out time, so as to make a win on the first innings. If   these tactics had been adopted at first it might have been possible, for although J. Holmes stonewalled for an ...
