Australia's Sheep Numbers. Building Up, and Keeping Up MAIZE AS A FACTOR [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 18 April 1924

[?] ? ? ? ;t; ? ? ? Building Up, and Keeping Up MAIZE AS A FACTOR How can Australia's sheep numbers be increased, and when thoy are in creased, maintained ? It is a ques tion that will stand a lot of discussing. The 'Stock Journal' published an ar ticlo on the subject a fortnight ago. That article was only a beginning — to deal adequately with the question would call for many pages. In that article a number of sugges tions were made. We want to see representative graziers discussing the subject because it concerns them most ly, and they can speak from exper ience. The more tho subject is dis cussed the better. It is a national question, and the first essential is to get the qualified representative view of graziers and those directly associa ted with the pastoral industry. One suggestion made in our article was fodder conservation. You know how it is in every drought: hundreds of thousands of sheep, _ and sometimes' millions, die of starvation. The right sort of feed is not availabl...

WILD RUMOR DRAFT ALLOWANCE ON WOOL. TALK OF DEADLOCK. [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 18 April 1924

WILD RUMOR DRAFT ALLOWANCE Ofl WOOL. TALK OF DEADLOCK. Mr. Lionel J. Weatherly, President Graziers' Federal Council, wrote the following letter to tho Melbourne press last week: Tho Graziers' Federal Council now sitting in Melbourne wishes to repu diate tho suggestion contained in the article under this heading to-day that there is likely to be a Berious deadlock in the wool trade. The Australian Woolgrowcrs' Coun cil since its inception has had under consideration the best means of abolish ing the draft allowance on wool, which it regards as an anachronism, and quite unnecessary, under present-day marketing conditions. It hopes to bring about this reform by friendly ne gotiations, and for the present does not intend to depart from that means of obtaining a settlement of what is regarded by many growors in Austra lia aa a real grievance and an unfair' discount on the realisation of their', wool. Mir. Caird, the chairman of the Colonial Wool Merchants' Association (London) is at pres...
