To attempt to cure bad legs by plas tering the edges of the wound together is a folly; for should the skin unite, a bpggy diseased condi tion remains underneath to break out with tenfold fury in a few days. The only rational and success- j ful treatment, as indicated by nature, is to .reduce the inflammation in and about the wound and to soothe the neighbouring parts by rubbing in plenty of the Ointment as salt is forced into meat. The Bega Gazette. " Quod petis hic est." SATURDAY, MAY 16, 1868. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Gazette and Eden District or Southern Coast Advertiser — 16 May 1868

Wljt Bcrra &a$ctte. '' Quod petis hie est." SATURDAY, MAY 1G, 1868. It may not be generally known that an Electric. Telegraph line passes within twelve miles of Bega. The linj^from (*abo Island is progressing IPr&pidly, and will shortly be com pleted. It is, now within a short dis tance of Eden. Although we have .the Electric Telegraph, as it were, passing oar very door, vet to the in habitants of Bega/ it will be of no .practical use or benefit. Considering the irregularity of ou^ mails—and this mast, of a. necessity, be always the case where we are entirely dependant upon the uncertainty of steamers and the carnalities of the sea for the de livery of our letters, &c—it would therefore be very 'desirable that the Telegraph should be extended to the township, the distance is but short, and the work inexpensive. The Government; will readily accede to the request of die inhabitants if they will guarantee the working expenses of the line—-that is, if the cost of...

BEGA SCHOOL OF ARTS. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Gazette and Eden District or Southern Coast Advertiser — 16 May 1868

BEGA SCHOOL OF AETS. On Tuesday evening last an entertain ment was given at the Court-house by the members of the above institute, in commemoration of its first anniversary. There was a numerous audience present, in fact the Court-house was crowded. The programme, being judiciously varied in its arrangement, was most attractive. The President., J. Davis, Esq., previous to the opening of the entertainment, gave a brief recapitulation of the aims and objects of the institution, and staited that the great drawback to the educa tional influence of the society was the want of a suitable building. However, this want he hoped would soon be sup plied, as the sum of £175 had been placed on the estimates towards the erection of a School of Arts in Bega. This sum, according to the provisions of the Act, must be supplemented by a similar amount from the inhabitants. The proceeds of the evening's amusement was to be devoted to this purpose, and he hoped that the public at large would on any futu...

George Francis Train has been com mitted to prison for an old debt. St. Patrick's Day passed off quietly in Dublin. There was not the slightest ex citement of any kind.
