Sporting Notes from the Metropolis. FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. BRISBANE, August 28. [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 15 September 1880

Sporting Notes from the Metropolis. FBOV 01TB SPECIAL OORttESPONDBNT. | BlUSBAKB, August 28. Spoetiko matters in Brisbane have been very quiet lately, though in the provinces several good meetings have been got through, of which yon have probably had as good accounts as we have. Mr. Abrahams was veiy successful at Towncvillc, winning three races out of four starts with Sunset and Bal thazar, though the latter bad to submit to defeat from the' Aoe in the two mile raoe. None of the Southern hones got to far as the Towers this year, and it is perhaps hardly to be wondered at, as there ore risks enough in travelling by -water without encountering overload journeys, especially at the end of the season when most of our nags are getting a bit stale and'sore. Efforts have been made to recognise Tbttenali's Club here, and to place it ic the prominent position which it should occupy in the sporting world, and I am glad to say that the efforts bid fair to be crowned with success. Family Notices [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 15 September 1880

POLICE NEWS.—Three men yesterday and two the day before were heavily fined for using obscene language in the streets of Blackall. There is no objection to bushmen enjoying themselves in any way they like provided they do not annoy other people. STOCK MOVEMENTS.—A mob of 16 kanakas passed through Blackall on Wednesday from Ruthven Station, bound for the nearest port. They are in prime store condition, and show evidence of careful treatment on the part of the drover ia charge. GOATS IN THE POUND.—125 of the Black- all goats were impounded last Wednesday for trespassing in the police paddock. They have had the run of the reserve for the last six months, and after denudiug it of all the grass they have found their way into the paddocks to treat them likewise. If people would only keep such goats as were wanted for milking purposes there would be no row about trespass ; but when flocks of hundreds are permitted to wander unchecked in our gardens, paddocks, and unclosed grounds, &...
