Officer Allen holds programs on date rape and burglary by Cristin Hayes Collegian Staff Writer On Thursday, November 9, Police and Safety Officer Tod Allen held programs on date rape and burglary prevention in order to inform students about protecting themselves. Allen gave handouts to students with date and acquaintance rape prevention tips. These handouts suggested that students should go on double or group dates the first several times they go out with a person, say no if you mean no, and if you are raped to get medical attention as soon as possible, as well as other tips on protecting yourself and knowing what constitutes rape. Props were set up to show students what types of locks work best to protect them from burglary. Allen suggests that everyone should have some type of dead bolt lock for the best protection. These programs were just two areas Allen has been working with this year. Earlier in the semester Allen was active in Alcohol Awareness Week, which was dedicat...

Special restrictions imposed on minority students Brown University requires special ID checks for minority (CPS)~ While officials at five other campuses around the country rushed to dampen inflamed racial sensitivities among their students, Brown University administrators imposed special restrictions on their minority students for Parents Weekend October 20-22. Hoping to stop a season-long series of violent attacks on white and Asian students, Brown canceled black student social events, imposed special identification checks for minority students trying to get into other social events, and even "considered" asking for federal help to stop the crime wave. The officials canceled two October 20 social events that would have been attended by black students, but let predominantly white events go on. At least 19 students, 17 from Brown and two visiting students from Vassar College in New York, have been attacked since the start of this semester. Though several of the students hav...

Behrend Ranger Challenge team goes on the road to Fort Indiantown Gap Sky Crane On November 4 and 5, the Behrend ROTC Ranger Challenge Team traveled to Fort Indiantown Gap to compete in a state wide military skills competition. The team was picked up in Erie by an Army "Sky Crane" helicopter. The two hour flight was cold, but much preferred to a seven hour drive. The events, held on Saturday, consisted of rope bridge, weapons assembly, grenade throw, physical fitness test, land navigation, and marksmanship. On Sunday the teams competed in the foot blistering six mile road march with equipment. Thirty-one other teams participated from schools such as Clarion, IUP, University Park, Carnegie Mellon, Pitt, and Valley Forge Military Academy. The three-credit course will be held on Monday and Wednesdays and will satisfy the other cultures requirement for Behrend majors.

LOVE ROB Garbage on the shore by Rob _Pnndle "Yeah, I've heard all this shit before. I still don't buy it, Rob." What is it you are rambling about now, Butch? "Oh, all this BS about access to Erie's bayfront. No way in hell. Just look what happened to that gorgeous patch of beach that use to be the Peninsula Inn right next to the entrance to Presque Isle. That place was really sweet. A bar right there on the beach. Doesn't that sound fine? Now that was public access. Do you know what's on that sweet beachfront property now, Rob? I'll tell you what's there: Condos. Ugly condos. I mean really ugly, make-me-sick condos, all fenced in. That's right, so much for public access. The dink of an owner sold out to condo builders who had no taste. Damn wimp." There were real reasons why the owner of the properly sold, though, Butch. You have to realize that he just couldn't afford the property taxes anymore. And he realized that the lakefront taxes were just going to get worse. "That's...

Opinion Parking problems abound on campus; clarification offered Dear editor, There has been much talk, occasional explicative, and even some screaming when it comes to discussing the parking woes at Behrend. As the Vice-President of Student Government, I have been giveft-the dubious honor of overseeing the much "bombarded" Traffic Appeals Board. Believe me, I am as tired as any of you are when it comes to the lack of parking here I have tried to do the what I can to help out drivers and the other poor souls on the Appeals Board, that have to sit through "umpteen" appeals that come before us each week. If your ticket falls into violation of one of the categories that I am going to cover below, do both of us a favor and don't appeal it; there is a good chance it probably will not receive much consideration if you do. I spoke with Police and Safely Manager Randy Hoffman and tried to clear the air as to where a driver can and can not park their car. I will describe five of the ...

/ I Missing _' Pieces Mark Owens stars in "Parking Lot Warrior* by Mark Owens It was 20 to nine on an ordinary school morning and if I didn't move fast I knew wouldn't get a space. (Parking at school can be a real pain at times. Last week I nearly took out an ROTC group out for a morning jog trying to beat a Buick for a spot). I jumped in my car and cranked the engine to life. I backed out of the driveway at 35 mph and tore down the street, spitting gravel and nearly hitting my paper boy. My neighbor Larry stood on the sidewalk and gave me a solemn salute. He knew what I was up against A minute later I had picked up my friend John and turned towards Behrend. Driving across town was easy compared to what was waiting for us. The other drivers had no idea just how easy they had it. I said as much to John. "Yeah, right, you notice they're headed towards the city. At least they have meters. Wimps." We crested the hill and I looked back to see the Pinto suddenly put on a burst...
