Several small firfes have been started by children using up their Fourth of July fireworks. People should cele brate on the Fourth and then quit. It is an unnecessary expense to the city to have to keep special fire officers after the Fourth to keep the city from burn ing down simply because boys wish to continue celebrating after the Fourth of July. ' Mr. and Mrs. Eric Holden and chil dren have returned from Norway, where they went a year and a half ago on ac count of the health of Mr. Holden, who has improved by the journey. LOCAL EVENTS OF THE VI rOCIETHER WITH A PERSONAL MENTION OF THOSE IN THE rtOVINO PANORAfIA OP LOCAL HISTORY An alarm of fire was turned in last Tuesday afternoon about 3 o'clock, but the' department, with chemical engine and hose cart, were unable to locate the blaze until after the excitement was over and the cart had been returned to the hose house. The blaze was at the resi dence of Mrs. T. I. Hallin, in the apart ments of Mr and Mrs. E. M Gibbons. The alcohol stove part of a chafing dish was lighted to heat an iron and left standing near a window. The breeze from the window blew the curtain until it caught fire, and when discovered the whole room was ablaze. Some boys who were playing ball in the front street were called in and extinguished the fire with blankets froirf the bed. Curtains, chairs, carpet and wall paper were burned, but no other serious damage occurred. Mrs. Emma Webster of Seattle, who died of heart failure, was buried here Tuesday.
