IfmnftliliiV TWO PONDEROUS HATS CLAIMED RIGHT OF WAY Quite a furor was caused on Second street one dav this week when two ponderous 'Merry Wid ows" claimed the right of way. The hats are said to be fnshon "latest." To describe them would be impossible but it is safe to say that they naturally have every thitiff in the way of a sky piece, that ever hit these parts, scooped a block. Some apprehension was felt lest they should accidently remove a portion of the awning, in their at tempt to pass beneath but the place was cleared with only a slight disfigurement. When the "latest" reached the bank corner many of the "near sports" fell in to line and some of them vowed that they would spend their last soda check if circumntancus de manded it. The hats, which of course carri ed girls beneath thm girls of that saucy, "good-fellow" type, drew like mustard plasters and when old Sol dropped behind the western prairies, they were doing a land office business in (rout of the postoffice. Eyes of ...

rm 9 i 0 1 , 1 T hi Summary of the Legislature I Speeitl to New" . SftBta Fc, N. M., as The ter ritorial legislature ot iooq tins pass ed into history. While n few days before adjournment an unfortunate outbreak in the House, caused by an alleged arbitrary ruling of the Speaker, threatened to seriously disrupt things generally, this was ironed out by Governor Curry and the party leaders and the clos ing hours of the assembly were entirely harmonious. In summing up the work of the Thirty-eighth Assembly, it is not saying too much to say that for constructive' and progressive legis lation combining the good with the bad, the past legislature reached a high standard and set a good example for those which are to fol low. The people did not get every thing they wanted, the governor did not get all he wished, but laws were enacted nnd laws repented which are sure to redound to the benefit of the territory and assist in its material progress and ad vancement. Before proceeding with a resum...

DID CHINESE ONCE HAVE CITY HERE Antique Is Found Which Leads Philosophers to Believe That Tucumcari Was Inhabited Before That Tucumcarl was inhabited many years ago, even holore Tu cumcarl Mountain had risen above the surface, was almost wholly settled among many of the Second Street philosophers one day this week. The question was brought up by several who were watching the side walk construction work near the Glenrocl; Hotel. There was at first little doubt as to the truth of their argument and that a city had once been located here but was later literally wipid off the map. That it was inhabitated by Chinese there was no doubt. As proof of their argument they exhibited a Chinese coin, with a square hole in the middle, which was dug up by the men who were building the side walk. The com was very old and was so rusty that the date was no longer visible. It had been buried (or centuries. Some of the philosophers began to give theories as to the life of these primitive people and it ...
