It would appear to be probable that the Council of the Town of Ballarat East may shortly flgure again in the market as a borrower. The question of floating ao other loan was raised at the meeting ofi the council on Monday last by Cr Pearce. and on his motion it was resolved that the works committee should preparo a echedlte of works requirs to improve the sanitary conditions of the Town. together with any other proposals that might be deemed desirable, including the purchase of road-making machinery and provision for extensions of the Town Hall and other public buildings. It may be admitted right hero that a considerable sum could be spent-and spent well-in channelling and other works that would materially im prove the position from a sanitary view point; hbut the question is-Is it desirable to incur further liabilities at the preentt juncture?
