Combined Choir Concert: The concert; organised by the com bined choir with the object of establish ing miuipal, literary, and band contests in Cowra during 1912 passed off at the Centennial Hall on Friday night under particularly bright auspices, every item on the programme being very heartily appreciated by a packed front seats audienoe, judging by the warmth of the applause which followed the rendition of the various numbers. This must have been very gratifying to the conductor, Mr. R. Elwood Arey, who had devoted a considerable amount of time and attention to the instruction and prepara tion of those who place.d themselves under his baton, and it must have been equally gratifying to the performers individually and collectively. The opening number Michaelis' "The Smithy in the Wood" was capitally rendered by the orchestra, the blending of the various instruments (string, wood, and brass) being admirable. A Narrow Escape. On Sunday last a local motor en thusiast left for Canowifldra with a cyclist iu tow. All went well tintil within three miles of their destination, when the motor giving a sudden lurch the cyclist overbalanced aud fell to the grouud, fortunately clear of the machine. The motorist con tinued on for somo little time before bringing his motor to a standstill, when it was found that the bicycle had beeu considerably battered, whilst its unfortunate owner received a number of bruises and abrasions, being lucky to escape serious injury.

The Timber Industry. Mr. Ellis announces that ho lias now re moved Iris mill from Mr. John Freebairn's properly at VVattamoiulara, to Mr. .Robert Cameron's. Tlio mill lias been cutting at Mr. Freebairn's a little over six weeks and during that time there have been over 1000 logs cut up, which represent approxi mately (30,000 superficial feet. As showing the demand for Cyprus pine, tho whole of this timber has boon disposed of. This is practical evidonco of tho fact that whera building materials aro obtained, tho de mand is increased proportionately. Tho situation of tho mill at present is some whore midway between Wattamondara and Koorawatha, and Mr. Ellis state-; that lie can deliver 011 rail at eithor place, and at tho samo price. Tho quality of tho pino is exceptionally good, being absolutely free of dofeots, and should command a ready sale.
