ROMANCE IN REAL LIFE. [Newspaper Article] — Geelong Advertiser and Intelligencer — 17 April 1852

ROMANCE IX REAL LIFE. TirE late Mr. Basil Montage, Q.C., whose death, at the advanced age of 8, is recorded to hare occurred at Bou loane-sur-mer, was formerly a Commis sioner inl Bankruptcy, and was so emi nent a practitioner in such matters, that for manr years he was regarded as an oracle of the bankrupt law.s. So little had been heard of him of late years, that many of his quondam friends Ia boured under the impression that he had long ago discharged the debt of1 nature. It is not generally known that this distinguished lawyer was the fourth son of John, fourth Earl of Sandwich, by Miss Margaret Rear, a celebrated beauty of her day. The melancholy fate of this lady inspired the deepest public interest at the time, and the whole affair has been justly styled one of the most romantic and extraordinary love tales ever recorded. Miss Margaret Reny, the mother of the late Mr. Basil Montiag, was the daughter of a star maker in Covent-garden, and served her apprenticeship to a mantua-m...
