us Sevices Caue g . Road Problem, Says Mayor Rapid deveolpment of bus services in recent years has created a "tremendous" road problem for Councils, the Mayor of Parra matta, Alderman E. A. Mobbs, said last week. Alderman Mobbs was speaking at a. meeting of the City Coun cil, when he gave impressions of his visit to Wagga during the recent Local Government Con ference. "It is obvious that far more than mere maintenance is ne cessary when roads become bus routes,-' Ald. Mobbs said. "Where the road was never constructed for. the purpose of carrying vehicles with' loaded weight of double-decked buses, it is- the invariable experience of Councils that road surfaces break up completely and recon struction it necessary. "Owing to the intensity of bus traffic in many cases, the only economic proposition is to build a concrete road, but the cost in volved is prohibitive." Sympathetic On Digger Problems No subject received a more sympathetic hearing by Fed cral Cabinet than those dealing with the problems of ex servicemen, the lhmihter for Supply (Mr. Howard Beale) said on Saturday night. Mr. Beale was speaking. at the annual Remembrance Smoko held by the City of Parramatta R.S.L. Most Promises made to ex servicemen had been kept.. The promise of war gratuities early next year would be honored, Mr. Beale said. He said that the extra. 68 mil lion that would be released in March increased the danger of infiation. This must be remembered when the question of an in 'crease in gratuities was being considered, Mr. Beale warned. Mr. A. Burchall, who repre rented the State president, Mr. Yeo, said that congress was dealing with the unkept promises made to ex-servicemen. QUIET WEDDING The marriage of Miss Flora Powell, of Granville, to Mr. Nor man Thornton, of Parramatta, took place recently. Owing to the illness of the bridegroom's . father, the cere mony was a quiet one. The bride, who was " unattended, wore a gown of pastel blue French` crepe with tulle veil, held by a coronet of roses. After the service a reception for family and close friends was held at the bridegroom's home, where the 2-tiered wedding cake, made by the 'groomin's mother and decorated by a friend of the family, was - much ad mired. The honeymoon was spent at Cardiff, Newcastle.
