RULE A HORSE WITH KINDNESS. [Newspaper Article] — Coleraine Albion and Western Advertiser — 4 May 1914

RULE A HORSE WITH KINDNESS. ! Whipping a shying, Irignteiied o: balky horse is senseless ami enici. l'aln doos not relieve triglu, but I lie assuring voice of a kind master doos. Whipping will make a confirmed shier of the horse, for ho will connect uio pain with the feav. It wmiiu l>c wvil l£ everyone using, owning, caring lor or dealing with horses could be made to realise the essentially luinian char acter of most of the horse traits od servable. If this could be aocomplisu ed the effect should be to enlist every such person a volunteer member ol a ■world wide humane society and ex tinguish forever the foolish and vvicit ed disposition to abuse and belabor a horse which now possesses many, who should " know better. By always treating a horse with kindness, and never abusing them, the practice of this virtue will bring more than Its own reward. THE BIG RIVER OF SOUTH AMERICA. [Newspaper Article] — Coleraine Albion and Western Advertiser — 4 May 1914

THE BIG RIVER OF SOUTH AMERICA. Only the mariner can tell the placa where the Amazon really has Ita mouth, because the opening it has made on the eastern coast of South America is so wide that it extends over one hundred miles. A long distance before one comes to the moutt of the river, however, one is really sailing on the waters of the Amazon, because they force their way so far out into the ocean. They say that three hundred miles out at sea, oil the mouth of the Amazon, you can hoist a bucketful of fresh water out of the ocean from the deck of a ship, ;6iich is the quantity of its water that flows from that gigantic basin. Long after you have entered the actual river, and have its banks to north and . south of you, If you are in mid-stream you will still be out of sight of land, such is the breadth of the vast chan .. nel. The river stretrhes far into the ocean and far up the conniry. Take a map of South America, and look out a place called Iquitos. It lies four fifths of the wa...

RICHARDS & CO'S NEW DISPLAY. [Newspaper Article] — Coleraine Albion and Western Advertiser — 4 May 1914

RICHARDS & GO'S. NEW DISPLAY. The present season's display by Richards and Co., photographers, Ballarat, will 110 doubt be conceded by popular opinion quite up to, if not surpassing, all previous efforts made by the firm. The spacious window.has been altered, and now allows of each picturo being displayed to better advantage. The principal subjects are all shown in colors, the art of which lies in the delicate and refined enhancement of the artist photographer's work. The life-size head study of a charming little boy j will be sure to command the admir- . tion of all who view it. The curls and happy smiling face are lifelike. A full length draped study of a young girl in classical costume is also very fine; the texture of the drapery and the lace veil being most realistic. This, together with the skilful pos ing and the excellent effect of the worked-in back-ground, makes up a delightful picturo. Another large study of a young girl gathering violets in a prett3r woodland sce...
