OUR OMEO LETTER. Friday, August 11. [Newspaper Article] — Bairnsdale Advertiser and Tambo and Omeo Chronicle — 15 August 1882

OUR WIEO EIMTER. (FROM OUR OWN COnRRESPONDENT.) Friday, August 11. At the Rcchabite Hall last night Mr. James Stirling, our respected land officer, delivered a lecture in aid of the Omreo Library. The subject was SPlants, their composition, structure and food." Tile lecture was illustrated by experiments and diagrams, and proved extremely interesting. The hall was well- filled and the results to the funds of the library should be something substantial. Mr. Stirling will make a successful lecturer, as lie possesses a facile eloquence that serves even to illus trate his subjects. After the lecture a dance was held, and was well attended. Tie election yesterday caused quite an excitement and the town was filled with voters, a great number of whom came from Omeo Plains to record their votes. A majority were of opinion that ties old veteran, Mr. Fitzgerald, would have polled more votes, and perhaps if he had taken the advice of some of his friends who wanted to plump for him tihe result ...

OUR TAMBO CROSSING LETTER. Saturday, August 12. [Newspaper Article] — Bairnsdale Advertiser and Tambo and Omeo Chronicle — 15 August 1882

OUR TAMIBIO CIROSSING -LETER. (FnoM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Saturday, A"igust 12." I was more grievar than surprised at noticing the death of Mr. Polick in tdis morning's issue. He seemed very: ill, when he was last here, and' his pro tracted absenice from the reef he took so much interest in led me to believe that' something serious ias'.the matter. I had known: him but a short time, but was very favorably ,impressed with him. I hope the other promoters will take some steps to carry on his work, as I believe the Haunted Stream reef: will become a valuable property if properly worked.: : Though I have not seen the official returns of our shire elections, nor those of _Bairnsdalo or Omeo-,I believe I am right in considering that they have ter minsted as I wished and expected. 'On the public house licensing question, I have heard no authentic returns, save that at-Ensay there were 14 votes against new licenses and 12 in favor of them. The refusal to grant licenses, where an increase o...

ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE. THE BUMBERRAH ELECTION. TO THE EDITOR OF THE ADVERTISER. [Newspaper Article] — Bairnsdale Advertiser and Tambo and Omeo Chronicle — 15 August 1882

ORIGINAL, CORRESPONDENCE, THE BUMBEIIllAII ELECTION. TO THE EDITOR OF THE ADVERITISER. bir,-Now that the elections are over for the shire of Tambo several of the ratepayers, myself included, are anxious to know how it is so many ratepayers have been left off the roll of ratepayere in the Bumberrah riding. Although a number of additional ratepayers were placed on the roll, there are still about twenty less thau on the previous one. If itis the result of a mistake or inadvertence, such may be admitted, but if intentional the rea son why ought to be given. A number of those omitted wele one shilling ratepavers. Granted it was a small amount, they did not object to pay it. Twenty such ratepayers would contribute one pound, which with the Government subsidy of £3 for £1 would make £4. Would the valuer like to deduct as much from his salary? Further nore tile copies of voters' lists were not placed before the public sufficiently long to enable them to see whether there names were on or no...

ONEO POLICE COURT. THUsnADr, lOth AUGUST. (Before Messrs. W. G. Coughlan and T. Easton, Js.P.) C. H.
