CHAMBER OE COMMERCE. PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS. BRISBANE, Wednesday. The quarterly meeting of the Bris Imne Chamber ci Commerce was held to-day. ' Mr. R. W. Thurlow, President, oc- cupied the chair, and in moving the adoption of the report he referred to the recent visit to Kenilworth in connection with the proposed rail- way to that district. Ho said he was astonished to find that the Go- vernment had such a magnificent as- set within 100 miles of Brisbanei [There were hundreds of millions of feet of timber there, .and with proper conservation there should be enough [timber to supply the Brisbane mar- ket for the next óü years. All that was necessary to make it available was the building of a short railway and he trusted that thc latter would soon be constructed. Mr. Thurlow also advocated the linking up of the main trunk lines. He congratulated the State upon the satisfactory sqttiletnent of thc mail contract. At the Hughenden police court last   week Charles Herbert Butteil, who   had been arrested on a warrant on a charge of unlawfully assaulting Con- stable Johnson at Georgetown on 20 th July was remanded to Georgetown. The defendant had only been re leased on December 9 under the Off-   enders' Probation Act. He resisted arrest, and it took two constables to convey him to the lockup.
