SUMMARY OF GENERAL NEWS. (Abridged from the latest papers.) [Newspaper Article] — The Moreton Bay Courier — 9 December 1848

SUMMARY OF GENERAL NEWS. (Abridged from the latest papers). THE debate on Mr. John O'Connell's motion in the House of Commons, for the repeal of the legislative union of England and Ireland, stood adjourned to the 26th October.-Our space does     not admit of the publication of Sir William Moles- worth's speech on the 25th July ; but the gist of   it went to show that the colonies generally should   be invested with full powers of self-government,   and the free control of their own resources, sub-   ject to the sovereignty of Great Britain. He   moved for an expression of opinion on the part of   the House, that the subject demanded inquiry ;   the House was counted out, as usual.-Sir   George Grey, în the House, of Commons, on the same day, denied most indignantly the truth of the reports spread abroad by designing persons, of, the disaffection of a por...

THE Moreton Bay Courier. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1848. [Newspaper Article] — The Moreton Bay Courier — 16 December 1848

The     Moreton             Bay Courier             SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16, 1848.   WE have not received any papers by the Artemisia which contain later intelligence than that which we have already pub- lished. From inquiries on board, we learn that no news had been received of the result of the trials of Messrs. Martin and Duffy. It does not appear that the re- maining ringleaders of the insurrection had been arrested. From all we can gather, we have reason to believe that the Government of Ireland has positively de- clined making any condition for the sur- render of the rebels. Mr. O'Brien was still in Kilmainham gaol. A gentleman who is now on board the Artemisia, was within five miles of Boulagh Common when the outbreak occurred at that place. He corroborates in all material points the re...
