Agricultural Instruction. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 28 March 1906

Agricultural Instruction. That agricultural societies have not quite achieved the objects the Government had in view when subsidising them has been appa rent to observant people for many years. And that members of Par liament have not applied a remedy of a drastic kind, is accounted for by the fact that the agricultural pociety represents a powerful vote — the committee, members, exhi bitors, storekeepers, publicans, printers, butchers, bakers and others — which no member can afford to offend by threatening to interfere in any way with the srub sidy. But the subsidy has been cut down from ten shillings to Beven and sixpence with threats of further reductions at any time. Now. thfl BiinaET firmlv believes thatnomoneycan.be more bene ficially spent than' that -voted for subsidy to agricultural societies, provided jome paios are taken to so direct the annual show that it will be thoroughly utilitarian and educational in its operations.
