DOYLE'S BRIDGE, KING PARROT. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 31 March 1892

DOYLE'S BRIDGE, KING PARROT. At the last meeting of the Broad ford Shire Council a letter was read from the Shire of Yea, forwarding tenders for the contract work at Doyle's Bridge. The Secretary explained that this work was jointly undertaken by the Shires of Broadford and Yea, being situate upon the boundary; and, from the representations made to the Public Works Department, that au thority had agreed to grant the two shires the sum of .£300 as a subsidy to assist in carrying out the repairs to boundary property damaged by the floods. Some further explanation followed on the method by which the sum would be distributed. Cr. Lloyd urged that the shire was capable of using its share of the subsidy referred to independently of the Yea Shire, and ultimately moved that in calling tenders for the work requiring to be done, the shires he made to under stand that Broadford would pay one half. The motion lapser.--Courier.

A great deal of interest was manifested in the contest, and the attendance of spectators was large, the conditions of the match being that the losers provide the winners with a ball. Wilson captained the Yea team, and F. Sandilands the Eighteen. The former, on wincing the toss, sent his opomnents to the wickets, and they totted up 105 before the fall of the last stump. Quirlan (with 53 to his credit playedl a good defensive game, and A. Sandilands (21) who also batted well, were the only players who got into double figures. During their innings there was a a considerable amount of "barracking," which seemed to affect the Yea team', as their fielding was not up to their usual standard. When the Y.C.C. Eleven took possession of the wickets they commenced to score rapidly, but when the ninth man ...
