Complaints have been made by returned soldiers that when in Hgypt privates are required to travel third class on the railways, in the company of coolies, Arabs, and other colored people of the lower classes. Non-commissioned officers travel second class. The relatives of privates have expressed indignation because of this practice. When the matter was mentioned to Senator G. F. Pearce, Minister for Defence, he said that he had re ceived no coinplaiuts, and in the abseuce of any information he preferred to make no comment. Mushrooms have been gathered in large quantities during the week about Wyeheproof. The most un usual specimen was obtained by Mr C. Precipitation of Rain. WIRELESS EXPERT'S CLAIM. Mr Balsillie, consulting wireless engineer to the Federal Government, claims to have precipitated rain particles by electric discharges at Bookaloo, near Port Augusta. An official report of what Mr Balsillie has accomplished up. to 13th June was received by the Minister for Home Affairs last Thursday. It reads as follows:—'' The following results have been obtained and confirmed: Dew collected, one tenth of a pint per foot per hour, with .005 natural precipitation. Water particles : Precipitation, half a pint per foot per hour ; rain col lection, 24 pints per foot per point of rain. Dewy nights about three in eight at this period of the year. Water particles day and night, oue per thirty days. Have made eight experiments with charged electric conductors, and it would appear certain that rainfall results have been recorded, but I am unable to prove it at present.
