The [?] [?]ion. Vita sine literis mors est. BLACKALL,WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15,1880. [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 15 September 1880

Vita tine literit mora «f. 8UCKALL, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15,1880. OUR Brisbane correspondent repeats a rumor which we have heard before, that Mr. FORSYTH, of Aramac, has some intention of contesting the Mitchell electorate, if » premature dissolution of Parliament gives him the chance. If that gentleman does get the chance of, course he will come forward as a follower of Mr. GRIFFITH, who bas lately given us an assurance of what he will attempt when tho mutability' of political affairs places him again in power. He makes no secret of what his intentions ore with respect to the western lands, that is, he will make op the deficiency in the revenue by taxing those who, according to the belief of the mob populace at Brisbane, arc best able to provide the money. There is an impression among the, lower classes of our southern dis tricts, which such men as Messrs. GBIFFICH, G&OOH and DOUGLAS repre sent, that the sq natters are the colonists who make the most money in the country, a...

THE CONSERVANCY OF WATER. TO THE EDITOR. [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 15 September 1880

THE CONSERVANCY OF WATER. TO THE EDITOR. RIB,-As the conservancy of water along tbe main thoroughfares of tbe colony in of vital importance to the public generally, I take the liberty of pointing out a grievance and a want, which, if ventilated, would speedily be rectified. Jt appears that tbe lessee of some country on (he Wet Alice, through which the great high road from Emerald to the Far I West passes, has been depasturing his stock of from 400 to E00 bead upon the roadside, and by watering them daily at the only available water, puddling the same, thus I rendering it unfit for the use of travellers and materially decreasing its quantity; besides which the pasturage around this water is . completely eaten down by his cattle, to the great inconvenience of teamsters and travelling stock. There is no other available water between the Grey Bock and the Wet Alice crossing, except the Bos Flat, a distance of 27 miles, and if tbe water at the Wet Alice is rendered unfit for use, travell...
