‘DEAD SOLDIER [Newspaper Article] — Lincolnian — 1 June 1940

‘DEAD SOLDIER By Roy Nièhols Music Department Has New Discs About 23 years ago _I was sitting where you are now . _I can ‘ remember the last class I attended ‘ before I went to France—it was my senior year in college . Professor William s was standing before us telling of the perils of the war abroad and relating the horr id ta les of bloodsh ed he had received from students he had once taught , who were then overseas , I sat on the -back row with a group of my close associates . Intently , we listened to the words of the aged professor , as he pleaded for us to refuse to enlist or -answer the draft—h e wahted us to be conscientious objector s . He said we could render more service to the cause of ultimate peace by refusing to fight than we could ‘ by joining the conflict , An evil means will never come to a good end , old Prof Williams uscd ‘ to say . I guess I would ‘ be alive today if I had heeded that ‘ burning conviction within my breast—but the posters and the music got me . ‘...

AQUA MA T- -IA [Newspaper Article] — Lincolnian — 1 June 1940

AQUA MA T- -IA By Mikey Anderson , ‘ 41 Swish ! Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! Swish ! Ho ! Ho ! Ho ! These sounds are an accompanying feature of spring at Lincoln and _, may be heard at any hour of the day outside of Rendali Hall , Cresson Hall and Lin-coln-Ashmun Hall . Aquamania is an irrepressible desire to throw water out of the windows . It is a rare disease among civilized people ‘ but , peculiarl y , Lincoln men are unusually susceptible . Professors , visitors and students have all been attacked by those possessed by this malady . This desire to produce artificial Niagara Falls is closely akin to Spring fever , Other ‘ springs , lakes , rivers , waterfalls , are all part of the coming of spring to Lincoln . It has ‘ been rumored that the cause of this year ’s resurgence of the dread disease is the S . P . T . B . ( Society for the Prevention _- of Taking Baths—at least ‘ baths , with soap ) and get the two week vacation which they firml y ‘ believe the administration owes them , By constan...

SO THE Y SAY In the spring , they say the robins sing , And skies are blue , and cares take wing ; And ‘ breezes fill the fragrant air , And gallants choose their lady fair . A Phil adelphia Story [Newspaper Article] — Lincolnian — 1 June 1940

A Phil adelphia Story A certain instructor had an accident in the City of Brotherly Love a few weeks ago . His car ‘ _becaiti e impaled on the back of a trolley car ~ nd was dragged down the street , Quite commonplace ! But methinlcs there is a whole lot in this accident that has not ‘ been explained . Many and varied are the rumors floating around the campus a-bout it , One reliable source reports that the ‘ brakes on the car were defective . Another states ‘ that the car had simply lived its day . Still another recounts that the instructor put his car in reverse in order to show a certain chemistry professor who was with him , the pickup of the car . With so many conflicting -reports we wonder how the car happened to attach itself to a big burly trolley car . Be that as it may , the fact remains that the car was impaled and there he was . With sweat rolling off his brow , eyes bulging , hoarse sounds emanating from his throat , he frantically blew and re-blew his horn in different...
