The QitizeisT. Hat on DA Y, FEBRUARY 15, 1379. nUiiJVrtUWMBI'lJWI Ml.. HI Lend Grants. Some weeks since we referred to the bill introduced In Congress in Decern ber lust by Delegate Romero, of New Mexico, providiug for llie prompt set tlement of private land claims in Ari. zona and New Mexico. We said then and think now that said measure quite fully meets the demands of the case. It places the entire adjudication nf land grant claims in the courts of law, and establishes a speedy and fair routine for such adjudication. It affords per. feet hearing to al! sides, and renders fraud as uncertain of success as can be effected in anj' hearing in a court of law. And while we have heard nothing of late of action in Congross thereupon, it is the only measure on the subject before that body and the only one likely to be during this ses sion. During the pending of that measure, and while the claims of min ers and settlers are being threatened uy land grant claimants, we can see no harm likely ...

The Citizen. Saturday. - February 22. is?j. Our Legislature. The legislature adjourned last Fri dav and the people can once more take a lonjr f ee breatli that at least a rest of two years will be given ibem and the hope that a worse body will never asain assemble to make laws for the people. The meagre reports from Present! leave us much In doubt as to the fate of many of the bills that were pending towards the close of the session. Bui enough is known to establish the fact that the indebtedness of the Territory has been largely increased, and noth ing has been done to relieve the burth ens of the tax-payers. The Territory has been run in debt at least 30.000 to aid in building wagon roads. Mari copa and Yavapai counties have had forced upon them a railioad enterprise involving a sub.-idy of $400,000 without the people being consulted as to whether thev wanted it or not. e know nothing of the merits of this enterprise, whether it will prove bene- ilcial or not, but we do contend th...

The Citizen. TRW A Y. UAlilI 7. 1S79. Climate and Customs of Tucson. But the winter days of Tucson, month in nml month out, excel any thing, in their kind, I believe, m the world. A morning in wtiiierat lue son lias no Miperlor in all of the range of so-called Italian cliiniiles There is an uiinigihcric luire, so to speak, and an elaicity of effect, that bullies any attempt at faithful tle.eription. ProsK are frequent, but the silvery "crustiuf-s ate transloraieU iuto jKmri drops at one Ehiminer of the rays of the imperial orb. The days are then warm and ooh genial throughout, uutil Cynthia lakes on her sombie robe. One wnuld hardly think, after a few day's intercourse wiih the people, that Tucson was one of the outer posts of civilization. For here, upon the very verue of the Republic, and in the midst 'of savage scenes, may be seen as much politeness and business integrity ; morv intelligence and hospitaittv ; and only a liitle 1 ss religion and morality than exists in a Msehusett...
