A couple of new steels steamship, built iu England, re now at the port of Now York, Tbcy are Huid to make sixteen knots au liour. or upward of eighteen miles. Steel has de cided advantage over iron, it in beliovod, fur shipbuilding. The discovery waH made iu New York, last week, that a Mr. Kidd, a twine merchant on Murray street, had a train of fuse connecting hU premises and adjoining property, whereby they could be set on tiro. Kidd was arrested, and his office boy testitied to seeing him mak ing the fuse. Threo large warehouses wore Involved in this attempt, and but for the dis covery, a heavy conflagration would have en sued, as the trains of fuse woro nearly all laid In tho upper stories, aud from roof to roof.
