Detective chief warms residents to lock up' Lt Charles Howe of the Highland Park Detective Bureau this week again warned local residents to make sure all doors and windows were locked before retiring for the night after two cases ot men entering young women’s rooms were reported recently, “While the primary cause for entering a room may be burglary, we do not know what goes through a man’s mind when he Is in a woman's room,” Lt Howe said. In a local case, a woman In her twenties awakened early one morning to find a man lying in bed with her wearing gloves and a paper bag over his head. Another woman was awakened when she heard someone outside her window. After she demanded an answer as to why he was out there, the stranger said, “I’m here to check the ineter,” then silently slipped out into the dark. “We have no evidence that these cases are connected because there seems to be no set pattern in the way they take place,” Howe said. ANN LANDERS Answers Your Problems Art devotees would rather fight than switch viewpoints Dear Atm Landers; J am a European teen-ager who now Uvea in Canada. Recently an art gallery committee informed me that they could not accept my paintings in an all-city exhibit because they were not contemporary or impressionistic. It so happeps that I do representational, art and am not an admirer of the modem slop that teems to be so popular these days. X am infuriated when I tee these monstrosities collecting high praise and winning prizes. Not long ago the winner of the first prize in an important Canadian exhibit confessed to his friends that he smeared his automobile tires with paint, put down the canvas in the driveway and backed over it several times. In your own city of Chicago the Norman Wait Harris Silver Medal Award plus $l,OOO was awarded to a woman who entered a solid black canvas. How can people take such garbage seriously? I’m convinced the artists are enjoying the joke privately...
