CHAPTER VI. CALAMITY. [Newspaper Article] — The Wollondilly Press — 11 August 1906

CHAPTER VI. Calamity. ..The Sunday morning following broke with a dense fog—as dense as any I have seen iii Wiltshire. I was astir early", and having had my bath —I need have saved myself the trouble,—went oh dcck to walk up an appetite for breakfast. I met the second mate (hs fine a man as it has ever been my lot to know) coming down from .the bridge. He had been on duty all night, and informed me that.-, the captain was a little anxious-of the fog, and had since early morn shared his watch with him. Having partaken of a hearty breakfast—which was iust as well—I again went on deck. 'Che captain, I found, had nol left the bridge, but had had refreshments taken up to him. ; The fog had | thickened, and he was anxious. For awhile I read on deck and then went below to do some writing. But the regular and monotonous blowing of the fog-horn every sixty I seconds prevented; me from con i centrating my thoughts,'and r went' up above again. A seaman was on the lookout in the forecastle, but...
