The event look the form of a smoke social, and it was one of the most successful affairs of the kind ever hold in llopetoun. Captain M'Donald uccupied the chair, lie called on Councillor j Turriff to perforin the opening j ceremony. That gentlemen read apologies from Councillors Roberts (shire president) ILnnlyn and Lear moiitb, and Mr. H. II. Hutchinson. He gave a brief history of the bri gade, which had been established some four years. Fight in Railway Carriage. POLICE COURT SEQT7KL At the Yt'arracknabeal Police i Court on Wednesday of last week, I Oscar Schmidt and Fatta Chan wero charged with assaulting Paul Bern hardt. Evidence showed that the three infeii and William Hopper, railway detective, were in a railway carriage travelling from Warraeknalieal to Brim. Hopper said that when Fatta Chan entered the carriage Bernhardt said that he wad not a Britisher. Thu Indian replied that he was. Hopper said lliat he cautioned Fatta Chan and Bernhardt, when Schmidt caniu into the carriage and Fatta Chan told him that Bernhardt hud insulted hi in, and said he was no Britisher. Soli in hit attacked Bernhardt, who was severely handled by Schmidt and Fatta Chan. Hopper separated thorn, and gave them in charge. They had been di in king.
