NEW SOUTH WALES. [Newspaper Article] — The Brisbane Courier — 4 July 1864

NEW SOUTH WALES. By the City of Brisbane steamer which   arrived at the wharf last evening we have re   ceived files from Sydney to the first instant. We       take from them the following items of news - AN OFFICIAL BURGLAR. A curious story   relative to the Honorable Geoffrey and his doings has been in circulation in Sydney during       the week. Although perhaps not literally     correct as to details it is we are informed sub     tantially true as to its main facts. The Courier. PUBLISHED DAILY. MONDAY, JULY 4, 1864. [Newspaper Article] — The Brisbane Courier — 4 July 1864

THE COURIER. PUBLISHED DAILY. Monday, JULY 4, 1864. It was with a good deal of pleasure we perused the return of the revenue collected during the second quarter of this year, which was published in our previous issue ; and we doubt not that all our readers are participators in the feelings of gratification which Mr. Moffatt's comparative state- ment is so well calculated to induce. An examination of the return, with a few words of explanation and comment, is necessary to a proper appreciation of the results therein set forth. That the revenue is steadily increasing is the subject for hearty congratulation ; but, alone, it is not calcu- lated to make us satisfied with the measure of prosperity which the colony enjoys. Our peculiar circumstances necessitate us to consider it with somewhat of misgiving in relation to the expenditure chargeable against the revenue. It is only when the current expenditure of the Government of Queensland shall be kept within her income that we can feel un...

THE LEGION OF HONOR. [Newspaper Article] — The Brisbane Courier — 5 July 1864

THE LEGION OF HONOR Yesterday morning the arrival of an immi-     grant ship was signalled at the Observatory, and accordingly Dr. Hobbs, the Health Officer, left town in the steamer Settler for the purpose of visiting the ship in his official capacity. On his arrival in the Bay it was found that the ship   wvas close under Moreton Island some 15 miles distant from the nnchorage off the River Bar, and the steamer therefore proceeded across the Bay to her. During the examination of the Surgeon Superintendent, the following particu- lars were elicited : The Legion of Honor left Lon-     don in charge of Capt.
