Presence of Mind. [Newspaper Article] — The Singleton Argus and Upper Hunter General Advocate — 9 January 1875

Presence of Mind. A REMARKABLE example of presence of mind in a railway porter is afforded by an incident, which occurred as the down train, from Aberdeen was leaving Guthrie station. A newsboy, wlto ac companied' this train, while in the act of stopping into a carriage, missed his footing, and fell down between the' plat form and -the wheels of-the carriages. As the train was by this timer in motion, any attempt on the part of the boy to get np would infallibly resulted in his instant death. ISine persons out of-ten witnessing this accident would have turned pale, and either shrieked out at the .top of their voices, advice of various kind-=, or remained -awe-strnck and motionless abiding- the issue. T'ortim ately, however, one of thu station porters was master of thomoment and.the.situ ation, and r rushing forward."-lay down on. the platform ; then seizing tlie boy with Li.f hands held htm flat on tliu ground till all the footboards of the train had passed: over < him, a...
